Lea, NM – 1 Killed in Fatal Collision on NM-18
Lea, NM (October 18, 2019) – Around 6 p.m. last evening, police responded to the scene of a fatal collision that took place on NM-18 in Lea and took one individual’s life.
New Mexico State Police claim that 31-year-old Damarcus Jamal Wilder was traveling north in a white Silverado. He suddenly crossed the center lane for reasons that are not yet known.
Wilder’s vehicle sideswiped a Chevy Equinox before it then struck a Dodge Ram. The Ram was struck with such force that it rolled over.
Three motorcycles were traveling behind Wilder before he lost control and crashed as they were attempting to avoid the accident.
Wilder was killed at the scene of the accident. The driver and a passenger in the Ram, as well as one of the motorcyclists, were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident at this time.
