Sierra Co, NM - Two Officers Injured in Pursuit on I-25
Sierra Co, NM (July 9, 2020) - A high-speed pursuit in Sierra County left two officers injured on Sunday evening, July 5. The collision occurred on I-25 between Williamsburg and Caballo. Officers from the New Mexico State Police attempted to stop a potential drunk driver at around 10:30 p.m.
The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued. The driver reportedly came to an abrupt stop on the roadway, causing both pursuing officers to rear-end the vehicle. One of the officers was air flighted to a hospital in El Paso for treatment. Another was treated and released at Sierra Vista Hospital.
The officer flown to El Paso has since been released but is said to be on leave as he recovers from his injuries. An ongoing investigation into the crash is underway.
