Vaughn, NM - Driver Injured in Head-On DUI Crash on US Hwy 285
Vaughn, NM (February 4, 2020) - One man was injured and another arrested following a head-on collision near Vaughn, New Mexico on Thursday night, January 30th. The accident happened near mile marker 177 on US Highway 285 at around 7:19 p.m., just south of Vaughn. Jesus Ramirez-Meraz, 36, of Roswell, New Mexico was arrested after the crash for driving under the influence and multiple other charges.
Ramirez-Meraz was allegedly driving a stolen black 2011 Ford Focus when he collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Ramirez-Meraz later returned to the scene smelling of alcohol. The driver of the Dodge was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of sustained injuries.
An ongoing investigation into the crash is currently in progress.
