New Mexico Highway Shoulder Accidents
While designed for safety, highway shoulders are dangerous for motorists and pedestrians alike. Studies have found that 12% of all fatal interstate crashes involve the shoulder of the highway. Each year, nearly 600 people are killed in shoulder accidents.
There is a lack of visibility concerning pedestrians on the shoulder. They go unnoticed by oncoming drivers, causing them to be susceptible to a serious accident. Those on the shoulder should always pull over as far as they can to avoid being injured.
