This is equal to a fatality occurring about once every 14 minutes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that deadly auto crashes are the main reason people ages 15-20 lose their lives in the United States. In the first six months of 2015, almost 20,000 people lost their lives due to auto crashes in the United States while 2.2 million suffered severe injuries. These facts highlight the increasing dangers of auto accidents in the United States.
Why do all of these wrecks take place? Also reported by the NHTSA, the majority of car accidents that happen in the United States are the result of negligent driving. Intoxication, distraction, fatigue, and speeding are four leading types of driver negligence that lead to millions of auto accidents in the United States every year. Currently, in New Mexico, driver intoxication is a leading cause of car wrecks. Drivers who choose to get drunk or high and operate their motor vehicles put themselves and those around them at severe risk for injuries or even death.
