New Mexico drivers have a reputation for being reckless on the road, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the state has a high rate of crashes caused by distracted driving. In fact, statistics show that nearly 40.75 percent of collisions in the state involve a distracted motorist, much higher than the national average of 8.12 percent. Unfortunately, distracted driving can greatly increase the risk of a crash. When a motorist fails to pay attention to the road, they can have their eyes off the road for nearly 10 percent of the time they are behind the wheel. This is a cause for concern and just one of the many reasons why distracted driving can greatly increase the risk of a sudden traffic accident.
