Cycling is a pleasant and convenient mode of transportation. Riders, on the other hand, are more susceptible to road hazards, increasing their risk of catastrophic injury. New Mexico has the country’s second-highest bicycle mortality rate, with millions of citizens riding bicycles each year. In 2014, about 1,700 bikers were treated for injuries in New Mexico. Between 2009 and 2013, 36 cyclists were killed or hospitalized across the state as a result of injuries received in an accident.
Pedestrians are at a serious disadvantage when involved in a crash with a motor vehicle in New Mexico. This has contributed to the rising rate of pedestrian fatalities across the country. Unlike those traveling in passenger cars, pedestrians have little protection from the full impact of an accident. This is one of the reasons why pedestrian crashes are over-represented in national roadway fatalities each year. A New Mexico pedestrian injury lawyer can help injured parties recover financial compensation for their injuries and other damages related to the crash. Despite what you may think, fault for a pedestrian crash is not always so cut-and-dry.
