Albuquerque, NM – Driver Charged in Fatal DWI Crash on I-40 near Unser Blvd

Albuquerque, NM (January 23, 2023) – A man has been charged after a fatal accident in the Albuquerque area on Saturday, January 21. 

The deadly crash was reported on Interstate 40 near Unser Boulevard at around 3:38 a.m. It was reported that a red GMC pickup truck driven by Raymundo Jaquez-Barallasco hit a Hyundai on the highway. The impact caused the Hyundai to hit a nearby Honda that had a flat tire. 

The Honda hit the man and woman working on the vehicle. The woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. 

The at-fault driver was later apprehended by authorities and charged with vehicular DWI homicide and DWI great bodily harm by vehicle. 

An ongoing investigation into the deadly crash is in progress.
