Chaparral, NM – Jose Marrero, Desiree Saenz Killed in Head-On Crash on NM-213

Chaparral, NM (January 19, 2023) – An El Paso man is facing charges after a deadly head-on collision in the Chaparral area on Tuesday evening, January 17. 

The deadly accident was reported on NM-213 near mile marker 1 at around 5:25 p.m. It was reported that a gray Jeep, a black Toyota Scion, and a third, unidentified vehicle collided at the scene. Emergency responders found that two people had been killed in the collision. 

The deceased parties were identified as 20-year-old Jose Marrero and 20-year-old Desiree Saenz. It was later revealed that 37-year-old James Patrick Woods was headed north in the Jeep at a high rate of speed when he veered into oncoming traffic and hit the Toyota driven by Marrero. The Jeep then became airborne before hitting the third vehicle. 

Wood fled the scene but was later apprehended by local authorities. He is facing several charges related to the crash. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly accident is underway.
