Loving, NM - UPDATE: W London Rd Drunk Driving Accident Ends in Fatality
Loving, NM (August 31, 2019) - Around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, August 20, the New Mexico State Police were called to the scene of a deadly accident on W London Road.
The initial investigation showed that a 2004 Ford Ranger and a 2003 Chevy Silverado were keeping pace with one another and both headed eastbound.
For reasons that have not yet come to light, the two trucks sideswiped one another. This caused them to veer off of the north side of the road. The Chevy was able to come to a complete stop. The Ford, however, rolled over.
The Chevy was driven by 17-year-old Francisco Limon, a resident of Loving. Limon and his 15-year-old passenger both escaped without injury.
The driver of Ford, 18-year-old Riley Allen, also a resident of Loving, was thrown clear of the vehicle. Allen was flown to a hospital in Texas for emergency medical treatment, but sadly he succumbed to life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead on arrival by a physician at the hospital.
The Ford was also occupied by an as of yet unnamed 18-year-old passenger who also sustained injuries. The passenger was also flown to a hospital in Texas.
Alcohol is believed to be a contributor to this tragic accident. Seat belts do appear to have been worn by all of the accident victims with the exception of Allen
Limon was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center in Roswell, NM. and charged with Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs Resulting in Great Bodily Injury or Death, and Careless Driving.
The New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is working with police in the investigation of this horrible accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim, Mr. Riley Allen, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
