Fatal Truck Accidents in New Mexico
Each year, an estimated 43,000 motor vehicle accidents occur in the state of New Mexico. Of these, nearly 1500 of them involve semi-trucks. When semi-trucks are involved in motor vehicle accidents, the chances of victims suffering fatal injuries are dramatically increased.
In 2021 alone, more than 450 people died as a result of automobile accidents in the state of New Mexico. In many cases, these fatal collisions are a result of driver negligence. There are many factors that contribute to the high rate of fatal truck accidents here in New Mexico and across the United States. Some of the leading causes include:
- Driver fatigue: Truck drivers typically work long hours and do not get enough rest. This can lead to them becoming fatigued, which can make them more likely to get into an accident.
- Poorly maintained trucks: If a truck is not properly maintained, it can be more likely to break down or have other issues that could cause an accident.
- Distracted driving: Distracted driving is a major problem for all drivers, but it can be especially hazardous for truckers who are operating large vehicles.
