Drunk Driving Accidents in Albuquerque
Drunk driving crashes remain a serious problem across Albuquerque and New Mexico. Alcohol impairment slows reaction times and affects judgment. These dangers increase the risk of high-speed collisions at busy intersections.
Fatal DWI crashes often leave families facing sudden loss and unanswered questions. Survivors may struggle with emotional pain, medical bills, and long-term trauma. These incidents can also lead to criminal and civil proceedings.
New Mexico law allows families of deceased victims to pursue wrongful death claims. These claims may seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, and loss of companionship. Injured victims may also pursue claims for medical costs and pain.
Civil cases are separate from criminal charges. Even if a driver faces criminal prosecution, victims may still file injury or wrongful death claims. Civil claims focus on accountability and financial recovery.
Alcohol-related crashes often involve insurance challenges. Policy limits may not fully cover losses, especially in fatal cases. An experienced Albuquerque wrongful death lawyer can investigate all available sources of compensation.
Attorneys may review police reports, toxicology results, and witness statements. They can also work with accident reconstruction experts. This process helps build strong claims for victims and families.
Holding impaired drivers accountable may also help prevent future harm. Civil claims send a message about the serious consequences of drunk driving. Legal action cannot undo loss, but it may provide support and closure.
Albuquerque continues efforts to reduce impaired driving through enforcement and education. Still, these crashes persist and affect many families each year. Knowing your legal options can help during an overwhelming time.
