Car crashes happen all the time in the United States and throughout New Mexico. Every year, more than 6 million car wrecks are reported across the nation. In New Mexico, tens of thousands of auto collisions occur annually that cause injuries to thousands of people and take the lives of hundreds. These crashes can occur for multiple reasons, however, the main cause of these crashes is driver negligence.
Driver negligence has become a serious problem in the United States in the past decade. Drivers who choose to pay attention to anything other than the road in front of them put themselves and others at serious risk for injuries or even fatalities. Driver distraction causes over 400,000 vehicle accidents annually and about 3,000 deaths.
Other forms of driver negligence include speeding, fatigue, and intoxication. Speeding causes about 11,000 deaths per year, while fatigued drivers are involved in over 100,000 vehicle collisions each year. Additionally, about 30% of reported fatal accidents in the United States involve an intoxicated driver.
