Car accidents are, unfortunately, a common occurrence in the United States and throughout the state of New Mexico. Every year, over 6 million car crashes are reported throughout the country that cause more than 3 million people to sustain injuries. Sadly, about 40,000 people end up losing their lives per year due to motor vehicle collisions in the United States.
In New Mexico, tens of thousands of people suffer injuries serious enough to send them to the hospital due to motor vehicle accidents. Alarmingly, the majority of the car crashes that happen in the United States and across the Land of Enchantment are preventable and caused by driver negligence.
Drivers who choose to act negligently by allowing themselves to become distracted, intoxicated, overly fatigued, or travel at unsafe speeds put themselves and those they encounter on the road at severe risk of serious injuries or even losing their lives. Negligently caused car crashes are among the top ten reasons people in the United States suffer serious injuries or fatalities. Driver negligence has become a prevalent problem in the United States, especially in the past decade or so.
For example, every year, more than 11,000 people lose their lives due to auto collisions caused by the actions of speeding drivers. Speeding is dangerous because it doesn’t give drivers enough time to react appropriately or stop in the event of a possible collision. Additionally, about 400,000 crashes are caused by distracted driving per year in the US. This is about the same number of accidents that happen in the largest state in the country, California.
