Albuquerque, NM – 1 Killed, 1 Critically Hurt in Small Plane Crash at Los Altos Golf Course
Albuquerque, NM (March 7, 2026) – One person died and another suffered critical injuries after a small plane crashed on Friday, March 6, at Los Altos Golf Course in Albuquerque. The accident occurred around 11:39 a.m. when a single-engine Cessna 400 went down while attempting an emergency landing near the golf course.
Records show the aircraft departed from Wichita, Kansas, earlier that day. The flight stopped in Albuquerque for fuel and was scheduled to continue toward Scottsdale, Arizona.
Radio communications recorded before the accident indicate the pilot reported experiencing partial power loss while approaching Albuquerque. The pilot told air traffic controllers they were attempting to reach the airport but continued to experience reduced engine power.
Air traffic control suggested possible landing areas as the aircraft descended. Moments later, the plane crashed on the grounds of Los Altos Golf Course.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash was reported and assisted those on board. Crews freed both occupants from the wreckage and transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Authorities later confirmed that one of the passengers died from injuries sustained in the accident. The victim was identified as Deborah Rhinesmith of Kansas.
The second occupant survived the crash but remained in critical condition. Officials have not released the person’s identity.
The Federal Aviation Administration is working alongside the National Transportation Safety Board to determine what led to the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Deborah Rhinesmith. We also wish the injured occupant a full and steady recovery.
How Can a Lawyer Help After a Fatal Aircraft Crash in Albuquerque?
A lawyer can help families determine liability after a fatal aviation accident. Aircraft crashes can involve several parties, including aircraft owners, maintenance providers, manufacturers, or operators. Examining the roles of each party may help identify who held responsibility for the aircraft’s operation or upkeep.
Aviation cases often require aircraft maintenance records, inspection logs, and flight documentation. An attorney may work with aviation specialists to review these records, examine aircraft systems, and analyze technical findings. This review can help identify conditions that may have existed before the accident.
An attorney can help families understand their legal options after a fatal aircraft crash. Compensation may include medical expenses, funeral costs, and the loss of financial support provided by the deceased.
Insurance negotiations may also follow an aviation crash. Hence, a lawyer can communicate with insurance companies and review policy terms connected to the aircraft or flight. This helps clarify what coverage may apply and how claims may proceed.
