Albuquerque, NM – One Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash at Eubank Blvd & Layton Ave NE
Albuquerque, NM (May 15, 2026) – One person lost their life Thursday evening, May 14, after a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Eubank Boulevard and Layton Avenue Northeast in Albuquerque.
Emergency crews responded shortly before 6:50 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a serious traffic accident with injuries at the intersection. Dispatchers received information that one person was unconscious and trapped inside a vehicle while another person suffered minor injuries.
Officers with the Albuquerque Police Department and firefighters from Albuquerque Fire Rescue arrived and found at least one person critically hurt. Rescue crews transported the victim to a local hospital with severe injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the injured driver died at the hospital.
According to investigators with APD’s Fatal Crash Team, the collision involved a silver Kia sedan, a gray Jeep, and a white Volkswagen van. Detectives said the Kia traveled eastbound on Layton Avenue and stopped in the turn lane for northbound Eubank Boulevard. Investigators believe the Kia then accelerated into the intersection against a red light.
Police said the Jeep traveled southbound on Eubank Boulevard when it entered the intersection and struck the Kia on the driver’s side. The Jeep then veered left after the impact and crashed into a Volkswagen van waiting in a turn lane on northbound Eubank.
The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and stayed at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen van and a passenger did not suffer injuries.
The intersection near Eubank Boulevard and Layton Avenue remained closed while investigators documented evidence and cleared the crash scene. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life and wish a strong recovery to those injured.
How Long Do I Have to File a Claim in New Mexico?
New Mexico law generally gives injured people three years from the date of a car accident to file a claim. Families pursuing a wrongful death claim usually also face a three-year filing deadline. Missing these deadlines may affect a person’s ability to recover compensation connected to medical bills, lost income, or other crash-related losses.
Serious crashes at intersections like Eubank Boulevard and Layton Avenue can create long-term challenges for drivers and passengers. Busy Albuquerque roads near Central Avenue, I-40, and Montgomery Boulevard often experience heavy traffic, turning vehicles, and signal-controlled intersections throughout the day. Multi-vehicle collisions at these locations may involve extensive investigations, witness statements, and traffic camera footage that help explain how the accident happened.
After a major crash, people often need ongoing medical treatment and follow-up care. Injuries may include broken bones, head trauma, internal injuries, neck pain, or emotional stress connected to the collision. Some symptoms appear immediately, while others may develop over time. Medical evaluations and organized records can help document how the injuries associate to the accident.
Insurance claims after a New Mexico collision may also involve questions about liability, comparative fault, and available coverage. An Albuquerque car accident lawyer may help review police reports, medical documentation, insurance communication, and other evidence tied to the crash. Legal guidance can also help families understand which deadlines and legal procedures may apply in a particular situation.
