Two Employees Hurt in Hotel Fire on Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe, NM
Santa Fe, NM (June 12, 2026) – Two hotel employees were taken to a hospital, and six police officers sought medical evaluation after an electrical fire broke out at Hotel Santa Fe Hacienda & Spa on Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe early Thursday morning, June 11.
The Santa Fe Fire Department and emergency units were dispatched to the property at 1501 Paseo de Peralta at approximately 5 a.m. and brought the fire under control roughly 40 minutes later.
The fire appeared to have started in an electrical box near the kitchen. It traveled upward through interior wall spaces, producing heavy smoke throughout portions of the building.
The two employees were taken to a hospital for evaluation due to smoke inhalation. Six officers who assisted with guest evacuation were overcome by smoke and transported themselves to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
All 92 rooms were evacuated, and approximately 145 guests were displaced. The hotel was working to arrange alternative accommodations.
This incident remains under active investigation.
We wish those affected a smooth and complete recovery.
Workplace Injury Claims After a Fire in Santa Fe, NM
When employees are hurt during a fire at their workplace, they may have more than one avenue available to them under New Mexico law. Workers’ compensation typically covers injuries sustained on the job. However, if the fire resulted from a third party’s negligence, such as a contractor responsible for electrical maintenance or a manufacturer of faulty equipment, a separate personal injury claim may also be possible.
Hotel fires in urban Santa Fe present particular challenges, given the density of historic properties throughout the downtown corridor. Buildings along Paseo de Peralta or the streets surrounding the Plaza were mostly constructed decades ago and may contain older electrical systems that require regular inspection and upgrades. When a fire originates in an electrical box, questions about maintenance schedules, code compliance, and inspection history can all become relevant to determining who bears responsibility.
Smoke inhalation injuries are not always immediately obvious. Employees and others exposed to heavy smoke may experience delayed respiratory symptoms, throat and lung irritation, or longer-term complications that only become apparent days after the fact. Medical documentation from the initial hospital visit and any follow-up care is important to preserve from the start.
A Santa Fe personal injury attorney can review the circumstances of a workplace fire, identify potentially liable parties beyond an employer, and explain what compensation may be available for medical costs, lost wages, and related harm.
