Thoreau, NM – One Killed, Four Hurt in I-40 Crash

Thoreau, NM (December 24, 2023) – A fatal accident reported on Saturday claimed one person’s life while leaving multiple other victims injured. At around seven a.m. on December 23, emergency officials were called to provide assistance at the scene of a crash on Interstate 40.

According to reports from the New Mexico State police, 25-year-old Ruth Cisneros was driving a car westbound on Interstate 40 during the morning hours. For unknown reasons, she became involved in a collision. As a result of the crash, the vehicle flipped and rolled over. Cisneros was ejected from her vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Four passengers in the vehicle were injured. The victims were all identified as children between the ages of two and seven. All of the victims were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for emergency care. The New Mexico State Police are currently investigating the accident.
