The statistics show that driver distraction is a rapidly growing contributor to serious car accidents in the United States. An estimated 8 people are killed daily by distracted motorists, and distraction contributed to an estimated 3,500 collisions annually across the country. More than 400,000 people are injured and nearly 2,800 people lose their lives in distracted-driving-crashes on average each year. Nearly 15 percent of injury collisions in 2018 involved driver distraction in some form.
When a driver fails to pay attention to the road and causes a serious crash, they should be held responsible, not an innocent victim. The crash victim may be able to pursue a claim for damages against the at-fault party. However, this is often much harder than it seems. Many crash victims are unsure of how to start the recovery process, and you should not leave your case to chance. You need to make sure all necessary steps are taken to maximize your ability to achieve full compensation.
It has to be shown that the driver was distracted or engaging in some type of reckless behavior leading up to the collision. This can be hard to do on your own. A lawyer will know where to look to gather the relevant evidence in order to back up your claim. Your attorney can also help take over the technical aspects of your case and allow you to focus on your recovery.
