New Mexico Bicycle Accidents

Albuquerque, NM - Bicycle Rider Hurt in Collision at Wyoming Blvd & Paseo Del NorteRiding a bike is far from safe, especially when sharing the road with negligent motorists, but is a great way to get around for many people. New Mexico has a relatively average rate of bicycle fatalities that is on par with the national average. The statistics show that 3.4 per every 1 million people in the state are killed on average in bicycle crashes.

When you ride a bicycle, you are at greater risk of sustaining serious injuries in the event of a collision involving a motor vehicle. This is not a radical statement of any kind, but many riders still find themselves seriously injured in car crashes each year. When this happens, the bicyclist is likely to suffer serious or even life-threatening injuries depending on the circumstances of their accident.

Unlike those traveling in passenger cars, bike riders have limited protection outside of a helmet. Those traveling in cars have seatbelts, the frame of the vehicle, and other sophisticated safety features to make sure they are safe. Unfortunately, a rider has almost nothing protecting them from the road. This means that a crash even at low speeds can result in life-threatening injuries.

You should not pursue a case on your own after a bicycle crash. The insurance company representing the reckless driver will tell you whatever it can to get you to accept a subpar settlement offer. This is a common tactic used by insurers that our lawyers know all too well.
