In New Mexico, driving while distracted is a major safety issue. In fact, there is a reported distracted driving collision in the state almost every 56 minutes. There were 9,386 recorded car accidents in the state caused by a distracted driver in a recent year. You don't have to look at the statistics to see how common distracted driving has become. You really just need to go for a quick drive and you will notice many people looking down at their phones at stop lights, intersections, and even while driving. In 2021, distracted driving killed a total of 195 people in New Mexico. Drivers who fail to pay attention to the road and cause a serious crash should be held responsible for their actions and any resulting damages.
