In the United States driver distraction is a severe problem that is getting worse with time. According to data from the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), driver distraction is a major factor in the majority of auto accidents in the state. In the few seconds it takes to check your phone, you can travel the length of a football field while traveling at highway speeds. One type of driver distraction is using a mobile device, but other activities like talking with a passenger or fiddling with the radio are also seen to be distracting while driving.
There are serious car accidents reported every day in New Mexico, and these crashes can result in devastating injuries for those involved. The chances of being hurt in a car accident is higher than most of us want to believe, and we all want to think that it will never happen to us. Unfortunately, serious collisions are a reality for many New Mexico state residents. Car crashes often make us deal with new realities that we are not equipped to handle on our own. If you were hurt by a reckless driver, it is always recommended that you consult with a trained New Mexico car crash lawyer. This is usually the best way to make sure that you are able to make a complete financial recovery and ensure that the at-fault party is held accountable for their role in your accident.
Navigating a personal injury claim is far from simple. In most cases, there are strict deadlines that have to be followed, and you need to be able to collect the right evidence that establishes who is at fault for the collision. This can be overwhelming enough on its own, but if you are dealing with newfound injuries, it can be an almost impossible feat. You need to be sure that you do everything in your power to maximize your claim for compensation, and that usually means working with a trained attorney.
