Driving distraction has become extremely common on New Mexico's highways, and many drivers will admit to engaging in dangerous activities like using a smartphone while driving. The state has some of the highest rates of driving while intoxicated, and New Mexico also leads the nation in the number of fatalities caused by distracted driving, with 61.6 per 1 million residents. There is only so much that can be done to prevent a serious crash from taking place. In most cases, you will be hurt by a reckless driver who fails to maintain their lane, is speeding and runs into you at the intersection or just fails to follow the rules of the road and causes a collision. Whatever the event that caused your accident, you should not be held financially responsible if you are not at fault. You need to be sure that you have a strong understanding of your legal rights so you can take appropriate action to protect yourself.
You need to make sure you are able to see a trusted medical professional after a crash. Your health and well-being are always a priority, and you need to be checked out to make sure you comprehend your condition. You do not want to mistakenly think you were not seriously hurt to only later realize your injuries were more severe than you once thought.
