High-Speed Collisions in New Mexico
Drivers in New Mexico have a reputation for being irresponsible. Distracted driving, speeding, and drunk driving are some of the factors contributing to some of the highest crash rates in the country. Every year, speeding drivers cause the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans, and during the past 20 years, speeding has been connected to roughly one-third of all reported traffic fatalities nationwide. When you go over the speed limit, you have a higher chance of losing control of your car and suffering severe injuries in an accident.
It takes more than just completing the required paperwork and waiting for a check to arrive to recover compensation for an auto accident. For accident victims to receive fair compensation for their losses, they must first establish that the at-fault party was negligent. This means showing how the negligent party’s actions led to the collision and your injuries. To determine how much you should be paid for your injuries and any damages, you should always discuss your claim with an experienced attorney.
Your ability to receive full compensation for your losses may be significantly impacted by New Mexico’s comparative negligence system. The victim’s right to compensation will be limited per their relative liability for the accident. For example, a victim who is 30 percent responsible for the crash will only receive seventy percent of the compensation they are owed. To ensure that your case is treated fairly, you need to have a lawyer on your side to help you pursue a claim.
