Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
When you exceed the speed limit, you are actively putting yourself and others in danger. This is because speeding essentially magnifies the force of an impact and also results in more serious injuries in the process. Tens of thousands are killed each year by speeding drivers across the United States. In the past twenty years, almost one-third of reported traffic fatalities nationwide involved speeding motorists. Almost 40 percent of deadly collisions in New Mexico are caused by excessive speeds, and drivers who engage in these types of reckless actions behind the wheel can potentially be held liable for damages resulting from a serious car accident.
Insurance companies are known for downplaying injury claims in an attempt to lower your settlement value. This means that you will get much less than you really need to cover your injuries and other damages. If you have a trained attorney representing your case, the insurer will not be able to take advantage of you in this way, and you will have a greater chance of getting the full and fair compensation you need and deserve.
Your lawyer will allow you to focus on your health and recovery. Let your attorney take over settlement negotiations and the technical aspects of your personal injury claim. An adjuster will likely reach out to you soon after the crash and ask you to provide a recorded statement. They will probably say this is just so you can get your compensation faster, but this can be misleading. Anything you say in an official statement can be potentially held against you and damage your claim. You need to make sure you talk with an experienced lawyer before providing any information to the insurer.
