A serious car accident has the power to permanently alter your life, and it only takes a few seconds for you or a family member to sustain significant injuries in an accident. In New Mexico, there are a lot of car accidents reported each year. In the state, a car crash took place every 11 minutes on average in 2018. In all, 46,738 collisions were reported in that year, with 392 fatalities and 19,790 injuries. Should a careless motorist inflict severe harm upon you or a close companion, you need to be ready to protect your legal rights.
You probably do not have much experience with personal injury cases, and you are likely not sure if you will even be able to get compensation for your injuries after a life-changing collision. Accident victims should always get in touch with an experienced personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to ensure they have all the information necessary to support their recovery claim. In the days, weeks, and months that follow your accident, you might discover that important evidence from the crash scene is no longer available, so you need to start working on your claim as soon as possible.
The amount of time you have in New Mexico after an accident to pursue a claim for compensation is restricted by a statute of limitations. After the crash, you have three years to file a lawsuit against the responsible party. You might not be able to obtain compensation at all if this period passes. To safeguard your entitlement to compensation, make sure you fulfill these and other important deadlines by consulting with an experienced attorney.
