Head-on crashes are particularly common in rural areas, where they make up almost 13 percent of reported car accidents. These types of collisions are some of the most devastating and can cause significant injuries due to the level of impact involved.
You may think that you were not seriously injured by your car accident. Even if your accident took place at a busy downtown intersection or far out on a country road, there are always opportunities to gather evidence. If police are dispatched to the crash site, they will make an official report. This report will assign blame for the accident depending on statements from witnesses at the scene. You should try to get your own information from the nearby witnesses so you can start making a case on your behalf, even if officers assign blame to you for the accident.
The insurance company may also try to blame you for the crash throughout the process of their own investigation. These statements are usually based on hearsay, and having your own sources to back up your side of the story can be a significant benefit. If you think that the police report contains errors, your lawyer can help set the record straight. In some cases, police reports can be corrected to include accurate information. If you went to seek medical attention, it is possible that the officers were unable to get a statement from you, and this means that you miss out on a chance to give your side of the story. Fortunately, your lawyer can make sure your perspective is clearly heard.
