Clines Corners, NM – 1 Killed, 1 Injured in Semi-Truck Pileup on I-40
Clines Corners, NM (December 5, 2025) – A violent chain reaction crash on Interstate 40 near Clines Corners left one person dead and another hospitalized on Thursday, December 4. Witnesses said the wreck happened around 4:30 a.m. when a semi truck lost control and rolled over on the roadway.
A deputy who responded to the scene said a second semi truck then struck the overturned rig. That impact set off a pileup involving two additional trucks. During the crash, one of the vehicles caught fire. A witness described the truck as fully engulfed in flames in the median. Emergency crews rushed to the area and worked to control the fire, help victims, and secure the scene.
Officials confirmed that one person died from injuries in the collision. Another person suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Four other people involved in the crash did not report injuries. Police have not released names or explained what caused the first semi to roll over.
The investigation of this fatal crash remains active.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the deceased victim. We also hope the injured person is recovering.
Truck Accidents in New Mexico
Serious truck pileups show how quickly a wide-open highway can turn deadly. New Mexico sees heavy commercial traffic because I-40 is a major freight route. When a large truck rolls or collides at highway speeds, the force can injure drivers, passengers, and even nearby motorists in seconds.
In crashes involving semi trucks, injuries and losses often go beyond the immediate hospital stay. Victims may face long recovery times, missed work, and ongoing medical needs. Depending on the facts, injured people or families may be able to seek compensation for:
- Emergency care and hospital bills, including ambulance transport, surgery, and ICU treatment.
- Follow up medical costs, such as rehab, physical therapy, prescriptions, and future care needs.
- Lost wages from time away from work while healing.
- Reduced earning ability if injuries limit long-term work or force a career change.
- Pain and suffering tied to physical recovery and daily limitations.
- Emotional distress, including trauma, anxiety, or sleep problems after a violent wreck.
- Property damage, including vehicle repair or replacement and personal items destroyed in the crash.
- Wrongful death losses for surviving families, including funeral expenses, lost income support, and the loss of companionship and guidance.
Truck crashes often involve more than one liable party. A driver may lose control because of fatigue, speeding, distraction, or poor training. Mechanical failure, unsafe cargo loading, or weak maintenance can also play a role. That is why families often speak with a truck accident lawyer to help identify who should be held responsible and to stop insurance companies from shifting blame.
If you or someone you love suffered harm in a major wreck anywhere in New Mexico, a lawyer can help explain your rights. New Mexico law also limits how long victims have to file claims, so understanding the New Mexico statute of limitations for personal injury cases is highly important. Legal support can gather evidence, review trucking logs, and fight for the full value of a case while victims focus on recovery.
