Deming, NM - Kay Chandler Killed in Head-On Crash with Semi on Hatch Hwy

Deming, NM (July 6, 2023) - On Sunday, July 2, a woman identified as Kay Chandler was killed, and several others were hurt after a head-on collision involving a commercial truck in the Deming area. 

The deadly accident took place on Hatch Highway in Luna County at around 10 p.m. A semi-truck on Highway 26 hit the rear of a water tanker before entering oncoming traffic and crashing head-on with an SUV. 

A passenger in the SUV, 77-year-old Kay Chandler was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The operator of the tanker was not hurt, but the two other drivers were injured and hospitalized for treatment. 

No updates on the conditions of the injured parties have been provided. 

An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
