Roswell, NM – Driver Charged in Fatal Hit-&-Run on Main St

Roswell, NM (July 24, 2024) – On Sunday, July 21, a woman was killed after a hit-and-run accident in the Roswell area. The deadly crash was reported on Main Street early that morning, around 9 a.m. The victim was traveling on foot near downtown when she was hit by an oncoming motorist. 

The injured party, 49-year-old Nancy Caro-Chavez, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended by authorities after a traffic stop. The at-fault driver was later identified as 25-year-old Santiago Hernandez of Roswell. Hernandez was found to be intoxicated and is currently facing charges related to the crash. No further information on the incident is currently available. Local law enforcement officials are handling the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash.
