Tucumcari, NM – David McGarrah Killed, Several Injured in Pileup Crash on I-40

Tucumcari, NM (January 12, 2024) – A Missouri man was killed and several others were hurt following a multi-vehicle crash in the Tucumcari area on Monday morning, January 8. The deadly collision took place on Interstate 40 when a semi-truck rear-ended a van driven by 71-year-old David James McGarrah of Neosho, Missouri. This caused a pileup crash involving 43 other vehicles. 

McGarrah and his 70-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the driver was later pronounced dead. Multiple other victims suffered injuries in the crash. At this time, no additional information on the deadly collision is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials, and more information will be released as it continues.
