The most common example is texting while driving, but there are many other forms of driver distraction, including eating, talking on the phone, or even just conversing with a passenger. Driver inattention is sweeping the state, and in a recent year, 21,894 crashes involved some form of driver distraction. More than 3,000 people are killed by distracted drivers each year in the United States, with nearly nine people dying daily in these accidents.
