Every year in the United States, approximately 6 million car crashes are reported. These crashes injure over 3 million people and end the lives of tens of thousands of individuals. Car accidents have risen to the top of the list of reasons American citizens sustain serious injuries or lose their lives, especially in the past decade. This is mostly due to the fact that negligent driving has become a serious and problematic issue across the country. Drivers everywhere are choosing to pay more attention to their phones than the roadway, causing millions to sustain injuries or even lose their lives.
Driver distraction causes over 400,000 vehicle accidents per year, the same number of car crashes that happen yearly in the largest American state: California. The same number of people lose their lives annually due to driver distraction as those who lose their lives in car crashes in California, as well: about 3,000 people yearly. These numbers are alarming and only continue to rise each year. Other common forms of driver negligence displayed by American drivers include intoxication, speeding, and fatigue. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of accidents occur yearly due to these reckless and careless forms of driver negligence.
