When you exceed the posted speed limit, you are putting everyone on the road in danger. Speed limits are in place to make the road safer for everyone, but they are ineffective if drivers fail to follow them. A recent study found that almost 37 percent of fatal car accidents in New Mexico involve a speeding motorist. Bernalillo County has the highest number of fatal speeding car crashes in the state each year, with a reported 36 speeding-related fatalities taking place in the county in 2019.
You need a lawyer who has experience handling car injury cases if you were hurt by a reckless driver. This means that your attorney will have the knowledge to properly handle your case and make sure you are able to receive the full and fair compensation you are owed. We can help you recover the costs of your medical bills and other expenses related to your accident. However, we can also help you recover non-economic damages. That means recovering compensation for emotional anguish and pain and suffering after a collision.
If you are the victim of a car crash, you need to understand that you have a set timeline to pursue a claim for damages. This timeframe is known as the statute of limitations. In New Mexico, you have three years after the date of the accident to file a claim. However, insurance companies also have strict deadlines for filing any type of claim, and those need to be followed as well. It may seem difficult to understand and follow all these interlinking timeframes, but that is why you need to contact a qualified car crash attorney right away to pursue compensation for your injuries.
