Car crashes continue to be the leading cause of death and serious injury in the state of New Mexico. There were 29,541 vehicle collisions that took place in the state in 2018. Statistics show that 229 of these crashes ended in fatalities. The state is home to the second worst drivers in the country, and you can never completely control the actions of another motorist. That means there is always a risk of being involved in a car accident when traveling on the state’s roadways.
We all know someone who has been seriously hurt in a car accident. Most of us think that it will never happen in our own lives. Unfortunately, car crashes can and do happen every single day. You need to be ready to protect your rights if you are unexpectedly hurt by the actions of a reckless driver. There are certain things that need to be done if you want to have a successful personal injury claim, and these steps start immediately after the crash.
You need to make sure that anyone involved in the crash was not seriously hurt. Even if you were not, you should still see a medical professional as soon as possible. If you fail to seek treatment, you risk jeopardizing your claim for compensation. The insurance provider may use this as a reason to state that your injuries were not resulting from the accident. In fact, it can even be justification to deny your claim entirely. You should always see a trusted doctor after a car accident, and your lawyer can help you get in touch with a qualified medical professional.
