Fatal crashes in New Mexico take the lives of hundreds of people annually. Unfortunately, any crash has the potential to cause severe and fatal injuries to those involved. However, a significant portion of fatal crashes that take place in our state are head-on collisions. Head-on collisions often occur when one driver crosses the center line into oncoming traffic. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but most often, it is due to driver inattention or distraction. Regrettably, alcohol plays a major role in a lot of accidents that occur here in the state of New Mexico.
In New Mexico, alcohol is a leading cause of fatal traffic collisions. In fact, nearly 40% of all traffic fatalities in the state involve an alcohol-impaired driver. There are a number of ways that alcohol can contribute to a crash. First, it impairs judgment and motor skills, making it more difficult to operate a vehicle safely.
Second, driving while impaired significantly increases the risk of aggressive or reckless behavior behind the wheel. Additionally, it lowers inhibitions and reduces the likelihood that drivers will use seat belts or other safety precautions. This can lead to more severe or fatal injuries in the event of a collision
All of these factors come into play when alcohol contributes to a fatal crash in New Mexico. If you have been wounded in such a collision, or if you have lost a loved one, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses and some of the expenses you face.
