Auto Accidents in New Mexico
Each year, motor vehicle accidents in New Mexico take the lives of hundreds of people while leaving thousands of others seriously injured. There are countless instances where people are harmed as a result of crashes caused by negligent and careless drivers. We continue to see innocent people harmed due to drivers who are speeding or impaired while behind the wheel. Other careless and reckless actions include driving while distracted, failing to yield, and running red lights.
Innocent people involved in accidents are often left with serious injuries that change their lives forever. It is common to see victims left with trauma to the head, back injuries, and other serious injuries that require extensive medical care. Unfortunately, painful physical and emotional injuries can be quite costly to care for.
After an accident, car crash victims have the ability to pursue legal claims for compensation. In New Mexico, damages for car crash victims are paid based on the pure comparative negligence laws. These laws state that a victim is able to recover compensation so long as they are not 100 percent at fault for the accident. As such, even if you are found to be more than 50 percent responsible for the accident that took place, you still have the ability to recover compensation for all of the damages that were caused by the other person involved in the crash. However, the money you receive will be reduced by the amount of fault you share. Working with an Albuquerque car accident lawyer can help to ensure you are able to maximize the compensation you recover.
