Albuquerque, NM – Local Man Killed in Semi-Truck Crash on I-40
Albuquerque, NM (July 22, 2025) – A local man was killed after a pileup crash in the Albuquerque area on Sunday, July 20. The fatal accident was reported on Interstate 40 near Rio Grande Boulevard NW early that morning at around 7:57 a.m. Multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, including a commercial truck.
Local reports revealed that the driver of a 2022 Nissan crashed into a barrier on the interstate. A witness was assisting the driver when the driver of a Chevrolet Impala hit the brakes and slid under a semi-truck before catching fire. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The driver of the Impala, later identified as 61-year-old Cecil Barreras of Albuquerque, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries. No updates on the incident are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
