Bicycle Accidents in New Mexico
New Mexico is a destination for many cyclists due to the miles of bicycle trails and the temperate climate in the state. There are more than 500,000 bicycle accidents reported annually in the United States. Statistics show that more than 85 million adults ride bicycles nationwide, and head injuries are involved in nearly 60 percent of bicycle fatalities each year. You can reduce the risk of head injuries by nearly 75 to 85 percent when you wear a properly fitted helmet while riding. An estimated 1 in every 8 injured cyclists report head injuries, and almost two-thirds of bicycle fatalities involve traumatic brain injury.
Bicycle accidents take place frequently in New Mexico. It is an unfortunate reality that many drivers do not agree to the fact that cyclists have a right to use the road just like anyone else. Even though there is a significant push to promote cycling safety, the number of serious bicycle accidents is increasing with each year.
Injuries resulting from a bicycle crash are often quite severe. Even for those who wear helmets when they ride, there is a strong chance that a bicycle accident can result in pain or disability. Traumatic brain injuries are common in bicycle collisions, and even a minor concussion can have long-lasting impacts on your way of life. You need to make sure you do everything in your power to protect your legal rights if you are hurt while riding a bike. No matter how seriously you were injured, the at-fault party may still claim that you contributed to the accident. The insurance provider will fight just as hard to make sure they are not made to pay out the full value of your personal injury claim. You should always consult a qualified New Mexico bicycle crash lawyer if you are hurt in an accident.
Bicycle riders need to be prepared to fight for the compensation they deserve following a severe collision.
