Steps to Take After a Pedestrian Accident in Clovis
Your priority should always be getting immediate medical attention. Even minor injuries, such as cuts, bruises, or dizziness, should be thoroughly evaluated by medical professionals, as serious conditions like head trauma, concussions, or internal injuries may not appear right away.
Remember to take careful notes on any first aid or treatment you received at the scene or in the hospital. Documenting visible injuries and any changes in condition over time can be important for both medical care and future claims.
Gather evidence at the scene for insurance and potential legal purposes. Photos and videos of the surrounding area, road conditions, traffic signals, weather, skid marks, and vehicle damage help create a clear record of the incident.
Collecting witness names, phone numbers, and statements, as well as filing an official police report, ensures that an accurate account of the crash is preserved. You should also track all accident-related expenses, including hospital bills, transportation, medications, rehabilitation, or therapy costs, as this documentation supports recovery and any potential compensation claims.
In addition to practical matters, it is important to seek emotional and psychological support. Pedestrian accidents can be traumatic, and counseling, community support groups, or mental health professionals can provide guidance and coping strategies for both victims and their families.
Staying organized, keeping careful records, and remaining informed about the recovery process can help reduce stress and allow families to focus on healing and safety.
