Gallup, NM - Semi-Truck Crash w/ Injuries Closes All Lanes on I-40

Gallup, NM (May 10, 2025) - There were confirmed injuries in the aftermath of an auto accident in the Gallup area on Wednesday, May 7. The crash was reported late that night at around 8 p.m. on Interstate 40 near Exit 33. Two vehicles collided at the scene, including a semi-truck. Eastbound traffic was diverted onto Highway 118. 

One of the vehicles caught fire due to the impact. All lanes were temporarily closed while officials were present. At least one person involved in the crash was hurt, and emergency responders were quickly dispatched to provide the necessary medical aid. At this time, the severity and number of the resulting injuries have not been determined. The roadway was temporarily closed while authorities were present. The injured parties were treated by responding paramedics before being transferred to a local hospital for further support. Tow trucks were later dispatched to the scene to clear the resulting wreckage and reopen the area to outside traffic. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
