Mesquite, NM – Deputy Dies in Car Accident on I-10

Mesquite, NM (July 9, 2025) – On Tuesday, July 8, a sheriff’s deputy was killed after a vehicle collision outside of Mesquite. The deadly crash took place on Interstate 10 in Dona Ana County that afternoon. It was reported that the deputy collided with another vehicle at the scene. 

At this time, the circumstances leading to the crash have not been determined. Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to provide aid to the involved parties. Despite life-saving treatment from responding medical personnel, the deputy suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead. The area was temporarily closed as local authorities were present. No further information on the fatal incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
