Santa Fe, NM – Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-25 Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured
Santa Fe, NM (November 13, 2025) – A wrong-way driver died after a deadly crash on Tuesday, November 11, along Interstate 25 just south of Santa Fe. New Mexico State Police responded to the scene after reports of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction and crashing before the driver exited the vehicle.
Moments later, another vehicle struck the wrong-way driver who was on the roadway. State Police confirmed Wednesday morning that the individual died from their injuries. Officials did not release the person’s identity, as they must first notify the family.
Two passengers inside the vehicle that was struck by the wrong-way driver suffered injuries. Medical crews treated them at the scene before transporting them for additional evaluation.
Troopers continue to investigate what caused the driver to travel the wrong direction and why the individual was outside the vehicle on the interstate.
We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life and wish a full and speedy recovery for those injured.
Car Accidents in New Mexico
Wrong-way crashes remain one of the most dangerous types of collisions on New Mexico highways. These crashes often occur at high speeds and leave victims with severe or fatal injuries.
A wrong-way crash typically gives drivers little time to react. High speeds, limited lighting, and surprise hazards all increase the chances of catastrophic outcomes. Many wrong-way collisions also lead to secondary crashes, as seen in this incident when another vehicle struck the driver after the initial crash.
Families affected by these tragedies often seek answers while dealing with sudden loss. A car crash can bring overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including funeral expenses, medical bills, and lost income. During this stressful time, families may reach out to a personal injury attorney for help understanding their rights and legal options. These attorneys can investigate the crash, collect witness statements, review police reports, and determine whether negligence contributed to the collision.
Legal guidance becomes especially important because families must act within the New Mexico statute of limitations on personal injury, which sets strict deadlines for filing.
If injuries occur, victims may also pursue compensation for medical care, missed work, and emotional harm. Speaking with an attorney can help victims understand how to move forward.
