Riding an ATV is a great pastime and is enjoyed by many residents of New Mexico. Unfortunately, these vehicles can travel at high speeds and offer limited protection to the rider. The majority of ATV crash victims are children or young adults. There are more than 100,000 injuries resulting from ATV collisions every year that require medical aid, and more than 1,500 people are killed annually in these crashes. Unfortunately, alcohol and lack of helmets are often involved in fatal ATV accidents.
We all want to be able to enjoy the outdoors, but we need to make sure that we do so safely. It only takes a few seconds for a fun outing on an ATV to turn into a devastating accident. If you or someone close to you was hurt in a crash, you need to reach out to a trusted New Mexico personal injury lawyer right away. There are many factors that can cause ATV crashes, with the most prominent including roadway conditions and driver inexperience. Unfortunately, inexperienced riders are nearly 13 times more likely to be involved in an accident during the first month of operating an ATV.
These types of crashes often involve overturned vehicles. This results in an increased risk of riders being ejected or being caught underneath the vehicle and suffering serious injuries in the process. There is little to protect occupants from the full impact of the crash, and it is crucial that ATVs are operated safely and responsibly. Younger riders are at greater risk of suffering serious injuries. You need to make sure that you take immediate action after an ATV accident to prevent injuries from becoming worse and in order to obtain the compensation you require for a complete recovery.
