Fatal Plane Crashes in New Mexico
When it comes down to it, plane crashes are just not a significant risk for most people. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), the risk of dying in a car accident is 1 in 114, and 1 in 654 if you are a passenger. However, the chances of being killed in a plane crash are 1 in 9,821. This figure takes into account general aviation, meaning small and commercial planes. Smaller, single-engine planes are more likely to crash. In fact, there are 938 small plane collisions reported each year. The Federal Aviation Administration reports that there are nearly three every single day. There were 939 small plane accidents reported in 2021 resulting in 268 fatalities.
Small planes are just not made to properly absorb the impact of a full-on crash. There are many factors that can result in injuries to passengers or pilots onboard an aircraft. These collisions are known to result in significant psychological trauma, and injuries such as limb amputations, serious lacerations, severe burns, and even drowning in the event of a water crash are common. Even if these accidents are not fatal or result in serious injuries, victims are known to suffer emotionally after the fact. Pilot error is often a significant factor in these types of crashes, but mechanical errors are also known to play their part. Whatever caused a plane crash, you need to be ready to protect your legal rights if you or a loved one was unfairly hurt in an aviation accident.
