Who Pays for Medical Bills After a Car Accident in Sandoval Co., NM?
In New Mexico, the driver found at fault for a crash is generally responsible for covering the injured party’s medical costs through their liability insurance. The question of who bears financial responsibility will depend on how fault is assigned once the investigation concludes. New Mexico’s pure comparative fault rule means responsibility can be divided between both drivers based on each one’s share of fault.
State Highway 528 is one of Sandoval County’s primary travel corridors, and it runs through Rio Rancho and connects to US-550 and Interstate 25. Crashes along this route usually involve drivers with varying levels of insurance coverage, and gaps in coverage can leave injured people uncertain about how their bills will be paid. In some cases, a person’s own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage may apply if the at-fault driver’s policy is insufficient.
Medical costs after a two-vehicle crash can add up quickly. Emergency evaluation, follow-up appointments, imaging, and physical therapy are common expenses that can require extended treatment. Older adults face additional risk, as recovery from soft tissue damage or structural injury often takes longer and may involve more intensive care. Keeping thorough records of every medical visit and expense is one of the most useful steps an injured person can take early on.
A car accident attorney can help identify which insurance policies may apply to your situation and what compensation may be available for medical costs and other losses. Legal guidance can also clarify whether a third party may share responsibility for what happened.
