Albuquerque, NM (May 21, 2023) - A car accident took the life of 64-year-old Flora Garcia on Sunday, May 21. At approximately 2:00 p.m., responders were dispatched to the scene to render aid.
New Mexico State Police report that officers were called to the scene of the accident on Interstate 40 shortly after it occurred. They reported that a Toyota passenger vehicle sideswiped Garcia’s vehicle, identified as a 2008 Ford passenger car.
Garcia’s vehicle started to spin counterclockwise before it was t-boned by a commercial motor vehicle, sources said. The Toyota driver and the driver of the commercial vehicle did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
We want to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Flora Garcia at this time.
New Mexico sees a high rate of car crashes each year. On average, more than 40,000 reported traffic collisions take place throughout the Land of Enchantment yearly. Of these collisions, about 20,000 people sustain injuries, and hundreds lose their lives. Sadly, the majority of these crashes are preventable and often caused by the actions of negligent drivers. Things like driver intoxication, distraction, and speeding contribute to millions of car accidents throughout the United States per year and tens of thousands of accidents across the state of New Mexico.
Driver negligence has become a serious issue throughout the United States, especially in the past decade. Most likely due to the ever-rising popularity of smartphones and other handheld technology, driver distraction has risen to the top of the list of things that cause auto accidents in the US.
Over 400,000 car crashes happen per year due to the actions of distracted drivers - most of whom are distracted by none other than their cell phones. Though social and professional engagement is important, they can wait until you are safely parked and out of traffic and harm’s way. Looking down at your cell phone for five seconds while traveling in a vehicle at 55 miles per hour is the same as traveling the length of a football field with your eyes closed. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to severe injuries and even death for everyone involved.
When you or someone you love sustained injuries in a car crash, it is important to know that you have legal rights and options that can help you move forward. Especially if you know that your accident was the fault of another person, you should contact an attorney as soon as you can. A lawyer can help you learn more about how you can move forward financially by collecting full and fair financial compensation for your injuries and losses.
If the worst has happened and you have lost a loved one due to the negligence of another, a wrongful death lawyer in Albuquerque can help you file a wrongful death claim for compensation. You can collect compensation for funeral costs, burial expenses, and more.
Compensation is usually awarded to those who have been victimized by the negligent actions of others. If you know that a negligent driver caused your crash and, ultimately, your injuries, a car crash attorney in Albuquerque can help you recover.
