When you speed behind the wheel, it robs you of much-needed reaction time to avoid serious collisions, and this alone can greatly increase the risk of a life-threatening car accident. Tens of thousands are killed each year in the United States due to speeding drivers. Statistics show that nearly one-third of traffic fatalities nationwide have involved excessive speeds in the past twenty years.
The insurance company is responsible with for reimbursing you for any damages resulting from a car accident. The funds they use to pay your settlement will ultimately come from their own pockets. This leads many insurers to provide much less in compensation than a crash victim may really need. If you accept a subpar settlement from the insurance provider, you are effectively waiving any further right to pursue compensation related to the accident. This can be devastating if you later discover you were more seriously injured than you initially thought.
You need to really understand the extent of your injuries and the true value of your claim before accepting any settlement from the insurer. If you provide a statement to the insurer, they could potentially use what you say against you down the line. Even seemingly innocent statements can be used to hurt your claim for compensation. This is one of many reasons why you should avoid speaking with the insurance company before you enlist the help of a trained attorney to guide you through the legal process.
