New Mexico Car Wrecks
Car crashes are, unfortunately, a common occurrence in the state of New Mexico and across the United States. Every single day, over 17,000 auto accidents are reported throughout the United States. Of these collisions, over 7,500 people sustain injuries, and approximately 100 lose their lives. The most common reason auto collisions occur across the nation is driver negligence, specifically driver distraction.
Driver negligence has become a serious issue in the United States, especially in the past decade. With the rise of smartphones and other handheld technology, people have more reasons to be distracted than ever, even while behind the wheel. On average, over 400,000 car crashes happen every single year caused by distracted driving. Unfortunately, the most common type of driver distraction is cell phone usage. Drivers everywhere seem to think it is ok to look down at their phones while behind the wheels of moving vehicles, placing themselves and everyone they encounter at serious risk of sustaining injuries or even losing their lives.
Other forms of driver negligence exist, including but not limited to:
- Intoxication: Driver intoxication is behind over 30% of the national accident fatality rate.
- Speeding: Over 11,000 people lose their lives in car crashes caused by speeding each year.
- Fatigue: Every year in the United States, over 100,000 car accidents happen caused by drivers who are overtired while operating their vehicles.
