New Mexico Distracted Driving Collisions
Across the nation, one of the main factors contributing to catastrophic collisions is distracted driving. Although texting and driving is the most well-known example, there are several other types of driver distraction as well, such as eating, using a phone, or even just chatting with a passenger. New Mexico is experiencing a crisis of distracted driving, with 21,894 crashes involving distracted drivers in the last year alone. In the United States, distracted drivers cause the deaths of over 3,000 people annually, with around nine fatalities occurring each day. Distracted drivers will take their eyes off the road for at least 10 percent of the time. Reckless drivers should be held accountable for their actions.
